Write for Us!

If you like to write and enjoy The Daily Salad, you should come and write for us. We publish opinion essays, news and current-events coverage, and long-form political analysis — and we are always looking for new voices to join us. Whether you are a student organizer, a community member, a theorist, or simply someone with something to say about the world and how to change it, we want to hear from you. We do not claim to be unbiased: we are proudly progressive, and we believe honest, argumentative writing in service of the people is more valuable than the performance of false neutrality. If that sounds like the kind of paper you’d like to write for, keep reading~

We publish standard opinion editorials (1,000-1,400 words), news and current events pieces, (650-850 words), and extended op-eds for more complex theoretical analysis. For regular contributors, we only ask for one piece per month from any of these three categories— just enough for a good flow without bogging people down, and for guest columnists you can start by submitting just one piece. We edit lightly, consult you on any substantial changes, and handle Instagram promotion collaboratively (or not at all, if you prefer privacy). We accept submissions in all languages with an English translation provided, and we welcome writers at every level of experience. You do not need a journalism degree, a platform, or a publication history — just a progressive perspective and the willingness to argue for it.

Your work is yours and will always be yours. All rights to pieces published on The Daily Salad remain with the original author; we hold only a non-exclusive right to publish and republish your work on the site, on social media, and in our print anthology series, Collected Works from The Daily Salad. You are always allowed to request exclusion from Collected Works, and again, your work is always yours. New regular contributors will be featured in our "About Us" section with a short bio and, if you're comfortable, a headshot. We try to acknowledge all submissions within five days and provide an editorial decision within ten. We take contributor relationships seriously and will always communicate with you directly.

If that sounds like something you’re interested in, fill out our sign-up form HERE and send in an article. We provide a pre-formatted submission template with all of our policies and editorial guidelines attached. You can download that HERE. If you’ve signed up and are ready to submit, you can e-mail your submission— ideally in .DOCX format using our submission template— to editors@romainelettuce.us with the subject-line: SUBMISSION - [TITLE] - [AUTHOR]

If you have questions about the guidelines, an idea you want to pitch before writing, or anything else, feel free to reach out at the same address — we genuinely want to hear from you, and no question is too small. At the end of the day, The Daily Salad is a passion project built on the belief that political writing should be joyful, rigorous, and genuinely of the people. We hope you'll be part of it.
